Parts from other models

Compatibility List

As many of you know, Ford Probe is 90%+ based on the MX-6. Here in Finland, the MX-6 is known as 626 Sport Saloon Coupe (GD). As for a lot of other parts, you can find them from other Mazda models. In this new section I'm going to start adding one by one the all the bits that I have found to be compatible with the Probe GT.

Mazda 626 GD 2.2L
- Fuel filler pipe INJECTION (exact same, bought and seen)
- Rear discs (according to Brembo site)
- Rear links, stabilizer end links (bought & seen)
- Axle hub nuts (rear & front)
- Rear brake calipers

- Thermostat
- Oil filter

As a general advice, remember that F2T is pretty much the same motor as F2 found in Mazda 626 GD. You should always try and verify from some source that the part is the same (one way is to find US sites that list Probe GL and GT parts -- if they have the same part, the 2.2L 626 part will most likely work) but more often than not they are compatible / the same.

So that means that you can use the same:
Timing belt and sprockets
Other belts
Water pump
Thermostat
Alternator
P/S pump
etc.

Airflow meter is most likely different, distributor might be different, spark plugs and wires might be the same or not, but you can get the plugs at least from anywhere. A rule of thumb that a electrical devices may and in many cases have been recalibrated for use in the turbo version, so make sure they are the same P/N for both engines.

The more I work with this car the less I even see reason for this page in my blog. It's a proven fact  that for better or worse, Probe is 95% made of 626 GD Mazda parts. If we had the 2.2L Turbo model in this country I wouldn't have any problems with the parts, and barely do now. Just need to know what your looking for. Amen to that though.
